
The Burke Award
Presented annually at the National Conference on Cultural Property Protection, the Burke Award recognizes individuals whose accomplishments and impact on the cultural property protection community merit significant recognition by their colleagues.
The honor was created in 1994 in memory of Robert Burke, founder and first director of the Office of Protection Services at the Smithsonian Institution.

Conference Award Nomination
To nominate someone for the 2009 National Conference Award, please submit a nomination form along with a statement detailing how the nominee satisfies the following criteria:
- Maintained excellent performance in service to the field of cultural property protection, and
- Developed and/or implemented a specific project that has made a major contribution to the field of cultural property protection.
Please include specific examples.
By recognizing outstanding contributions to the cultural property protection field, the National Conference Award is intended to further the involvement and commitment of museum and library security. Therefore, members of the commercial arena of cultural property protection, including full-time consultants and vendors, are not eligible for nomination.
