The Fire at Notre Dame: A Chronicle of the Restoration Process
11:10 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.| Tuesday, October 18th
On April 15th, 2019, a fire broke out beneath the roof of the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris. An incredible response by Parisian firefighters saved the building, but not before the cathedral’s spire had collapsed, most of its roof had been destroyed, and its upper walls being severely damaged. Francesco Bandarin will discuss the fire and the ongoing process to restore the nearly 900 year old World Heritage site. Francesco Bandarin is an architect and former senior official at UNESCO, former director of its World Heritage Centre, and former assistant director-general for culture.
