Bertha Ellis

Sergeant, Office of Protection Services, Smithsonian Institution

Sgt. Bertha Ellis started her career at the Smithsonian in 2015 at the National Museum of American History (NMAH) and within 10 months was promoted to Sergeant and transferred to the National Museum of African American History and Culture. She returned to NMAH and then transferred again to the National Air and Space Museum, where she currently works. Recently, Sgt. Ellis participated in a 120-day detail with the training department at the Pennsy facility and she was invited to continue as an Adjunct Instructor for the BELT classes where she teaches The Interdiction for the Protection Of Minors, Lost, and Missing Children and OPS-12 (Uniform Guidelines). Sgt. Ellis has previously worked as a supervisor at Los Angeles International Airport, Fresno Yosemite International Airport, and Bakersfield Airport with the TSA where she trained officers and worked in the Behavioral Detection Unit, Aircraft Inspection Unit, and the Bomb Appraisal Unit. Sgt. Ellis was born in Washington D.C. and raised everywhere in the United States to include Puerto Rico and Mexico. She graduated summa cum laude as a Registered Nurse in Puerto Rico.
