Emilie Lemakis
Senior Security Officer, Metropolitan Museum of Art
Emilie Lemakis is a Senior Security Officer and she has been with the Metropolitan Museum of Art for 28 years. She attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Emilie’s art is rooted in the experiences and ephemera of her daily life. Her full-time day job as a Security Officer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art has also been a source of inspiration, leading to the creation of a series of autobiographical works and bodies of works based on her life in the museum. For the Employee Art Show at the Met, Emilie created a large fabric piece made from recycled guard uniforms dedicated to the entire Met staff and appropriately titled “Anthem.” Most recently, her work was exhibited in Pioneer Works in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and has been featured in New York Magazine, The Columbia Journalist, and Swipe Magazine. In 2021, Emilie was featured in the highly popular Netflix series “Worn Stories,” in which she talks about her love for her uniform.
