Ervin Hargett

Lieutenant, Office of Protection Services, Smithsonian Institution

Lt. Ervin Hargett started his career with the Smithsonian in 1998 and currently is a supervisor at the National Museum of the American Indian in New York City. In this role, he serves as the Officer in Charge and trains subordinates to respond to emergencies or any unusual situations. He reviews and evaluates alarms activity and logs, correcting any errors or discrepancies. He also reports any and all unusual and nonroutine occurrences to the Assistant Manager. His other responsibilities include monitoring the Control Room operations to ensure prompt and appropriate response to all alarms, and monitoring all issued equipment such as weapons, keys, and radios to ensure they are in good working order. Hargett is a graduate of Jacksonville State University, Xerox University, Catholic University of Maryland, and has completed training with Crime Scene Protection, the Wackenhut Training Institute, Supervisory Communication Skills, and OPS Safety Training for Supervisors.
