Fernando Diaz Jr.
Assistant Security Manager for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian
Fernando Diaz Jr. is the Assistant Security Manager for the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian. He began working for the Smithsonian in 2006 and has held various roles within the Institution such as Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Watch Commander. During his career with the Smithsonian, Mr. Diaz had the distinct pleasure of working for several years with Sgt. Fernando Diaz Sr., his father, who recently retired. Prior to working at the Smithsonian, Mr. Diaz worked at Capitol Security as a Security Specialist in Puerto Rico.
Mr. Diaz is a skilled risk management professional and is proud of his ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with stakeholders both within and outside of the Smithsonian. He believes that to be successful in the security field, one must be a good listener and understand that not everything will go as planned.
Mr. Diaz is from Puerto Rico and currently lives in Virginia.
