Ulrich Birkmaier
Senior Conservator of Paintings, J. Paul Getty Trust
Ulrich Birkmaier is the J. Paul Getty Museum’s senior paintings conservator, leading the paintings conservation department since 2018, where he is responsible for overseeing the department that specializes in the long-term study, conservation and technical analysis of Old Master and nineteenth-century European paintings. From 2000-2018 he served as associate conservator and then chief conservator of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, Connecticut, after positions at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, a Culpeper Fellowship at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and a guest scholarship at the Getty Conservation Institute.
