2023 Conference
SCHEDULE
May Day! Wet Books Workshop
8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
| Friday, September 29This is an introduction to incident response for cultural heritage organizations. This workshop will look at big picture considerations for emergency response with a focus on the considerations for collections that have been affected. Participants will start all together with the Library of Congress and Smithsonian staff sharing broad concepts on general emergency management.
Some points for discussion:
- Nuances between security/facility and collections response and jargon.
- Discussion about roles and responsibilities – if you are not a collections person, what types of activities might you support?
- There are always constraints in response and recovery. Need to be mentally and emotionally prepared for challenges and limitations.
Participants will then split up into two or three groups and will be given a scenario. Each group will go through a series of conversations and hands-on exercises.
