Paulina Florjanowicz

Director, National Institute for Museums

Paulina Florjanowicz holds a Ph.D. from the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences and a master of arts degree from Warsaw University. She is an archaeologist and expert in cultural heritage policy and management. Since 2023, Florjanowicz has been the director of the National Institute for Museums, and previously was the director of the Cultural Heritage Department of Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland from 2016-2022. She has more than 20 years of experience in the heritage sector, working both for nongovernmental organizations and public institutions, including the National Heritage Institute, where she was director from 2011-2013. Florjanowicz is a current and former member of national and European expert panels, including Reflection Group “EU and Cultural Heritage,” an expert of the European Archaeological Council, a jury member for the European Capital of Culture, and a present member of the expert Panel for European Heritage Label, member of the International Council of Museums (International Committee for Museum Security and International Committee for Museum Management), the European Association of Archaeologists, and board member of the Network of European Museum Organizations. Florjanowicz is a researcher in the field of the theory of archaeology and its relation to politics. An evaluator in European Union programs on education and culture since 2003, she is an academic lecturer in heritage policy and museology, expert in cultural policy, museum management, remembrance policy, fighting crime against heritage, and socioeconomic aspects of cultural heritage.
