Senior Law Enforcement Advisor, U.S. Department of Justice, International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program
Since 2018, Mr. Trindal has served as Senior Law Enforcement Advisor and Development Coordinator for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP). Drawing from over four decades of law enforcement experience, Trindal develops, coordinates, and assists in capacity building of foreign police, investigative, and criminal justice agencies to apply democratic policing principles in adhering to the rule of law and the respect for human rights.
The majority of Mr. Trindal’s law enforcement career was in service at the U.S. Marshals Service, America’s oldest federal law enforcement agency. Over a period of 20 years, he rose through the ranks, with many distinguished achievements, to chief deputy U.S. Marshal and incident commander of one of three emergency response teams. Mr. Trindal led international and domestic investigations, including an assignment as a Marshals Service representative at the U.S. National Central Bureau for the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL). Some of the cases Mr. Trindal led included investigations of art theft that led to the recovery of stolen pieces from several countries. His achievements included nearly 20 DOJ superior performance awards, two special achievement awards (one with valor), and a District of the Year award, as chief deputy.
In 2003, Mr. Trindal accepted the invitation to join in creating the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as it first Regional Director for the Federal Protective Service (FPS), National Capital Region. Leading a diverse workforce of 400 sworn officers and special agents as well as 6,500 support personnel and contract security officers, Mr. Trindal was responsible for the security and protection of nearly 900 federal facilities in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
Achieving degrees with honors in criminal justice and police science, Mr. Trindal has served as a faculty member at the George Washington University, the Justice Management Institute, U.S. Marshals Service Training Academy, FPS National Academy, and continues as occasional guest lecturer at Simon Fraser University. He is president emeritus of the FBI’s InfraGard and a founding member of the Preparedness Leadership Council. Currently, Mr. Trindal serves on the executive board of the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training. A native of Virginia and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Mr. Trindal has a daughter and twin sons, both veterans, as well as two granddaughters.
