Daniel H. Weiss
President Emeritus, The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Daniel Weiss served as the fifth president of the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 2015-2023. With approximately 2 million objects in its collection representing more than 5,000 years of artistic achievement from around the world, 7 million visitors annually, and an operating budget of $350 million, The Met is one of the largest and most comprehensive art museums in the world.
Previously, Weiss served as the 14th president of Haverford College, the 16th president of Lafayette College, and the James B. Knapp Dean of the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University, where he also served as professor and chair of the History of Art Department. Weiss has written or edited seven books and numerous articles on the art of the Middle Ages, higher education, museums, the American War in Vietnam, and other topics. His work has been supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Harvard University, and the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. An elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Council on Foreign Relations, Weiss is Vice Chair of the Board of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, Vice Chair of the Library of America, and a member of the University Council at Yale University and the boards of the Posse Foundation and the Wallace Foundation.
Daniel Weiss holds a doctoral degree from the Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Business Administration from the Yale School of Management.
