Jeannette Ibarra Shindell

Program Advisor for Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion, National Gallery of Art

Jeannette Ibarra Shindell is a Chicana from Southern California who works as a socially committed arts administrator. At the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, she is the program advisor for diversity, equity, access, and inclusion, and steers the museum toward achieving its vision: to become “of the nation and for all the people.” As an agent of change, she uses plática, rooted in empathy and care, to hold space and center historically marginalized voices. Through dialogue, giving agency to those most affected, she encourages new ways of working that value belonging and co-creation. In 2014, she received a Master in Fine Arts in studio arts from San Diego State University, where she became a social practice artist and spent a year in the university’s Curandera Scholar Activist program. She holds a Bachelor in Arts degree in film and digital media from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
